SMS44.com-What are No Follow and Do Follow in Blogger and WordPress?

We always wonder about advertisers, why they always specify and don’t approve a post if links are “rel=nofollow”? I know you too are looking for the answer.

Where is the difference? A very first thought that comes in mind is, a nofollow link means a dead link which can’t be accessed. But what’s that? When I clicked it opened and directed me to a live page. So the question that aroused is What is the Difference Between DoFollow and NoFollow Links?

Actually Do Follow links are the links followed. For example, when I place a link of my website on your blog, it will be followed by search engines and accordingly search engines will link my website to your blog.

Similarly No Follow links are those links which don’t help search engine to relate websites where the link is placed and from where the traffic is coming from. This is the best technique used by webmasters for suspicious and malware sites. So if you don’t feel secure sharing your Page Ranks (PR) and all, you can use “rel=nofollow” links.

Let’s translate some computer language to human language. Do Follow links means that we know each other (in other terms “friends”) and both of you bloggers/webmasters know that what you are doing. In No Follow links it represents that you are not friends and are stranger to the linking person. So there is no guarantee passed by you in no-follow links about the link on your page.

Why we should care for the Do Follow and No Follow Links?

It doesn’t seems to be much difference between these links as some people are not like advertisers who have paid only for links, but for advertisers it is really important that the links should be Do Follow because this is what they are paying for and this is the reason they pay you higher if your page rank and Traffic stats are higher, because Do Follow links is the way you are sharing your Page Rank (PR) to them.

  1. Ben Padstow. says:

The NoFollow attribute is, in my opinion, Google’s worst innovation (yep – remember, it was Google who invented it).

The whole basis of Google was that links passed authority. The better the authority of the page that passed the link, then the better the authority given to that link. Just because spammers abused that system gave no need to close the door on the whole system.

Ok, I know that the above still counts, but a huge proportion of the web – think Facebook, Twitter, Wikipedia, WordPress blogs etc – is now nofollow. This can’t be right – it’s affecting millions of relevant links.

It reminds me of being at school: when one person did something wrong, the teacher would punish the whole class. With the NoFollow attribute Google is punishing the whole class for the actions of a few, and you would have thought that a company that had basically invented intelligent search could have come up with something better.

    Maybe one day they will.

    Ben
